Well people have their agenda. <sigh> Interestingly enough while
trailering The Rebel Prince back from the Sunland Ride this weekend I
stopped for gas in Moorpark at the Shell Station in the Hughes Market
strip mall. While filling up a little truck pulled behind me. He didn't
buy gas. Later when he drove off I noticed he had a "Meat is Murder"
bumper sticker on his back window. This guy and his female companion got
out and into my face about how endurance is horse abuse. On the verge of
yelling at me actually. I said nothing. I guess since anyone could see the
Giant Tevis Cup Decale on the back of the trailer as well as the numbered
horse butt I was given away.
I won't argue with these people it's just not worth it. It'll get us
nowhere and won't change their minds. For a minute I thought he was going
to strike me and I kind of felt likewise, but considered the source &
remembered a discerning mind is all that's really required in life. I
guess the point is these people are organized or how would they have the
faintest idea of what endurance is? We aren't terribly high profiled.
Breck Thomas told me this weekend that there are more domestic horses in
America now in 1995 then any other time in our history. I guess that
means if horsepersons stick tight to their convictions in a democratic
soceity we will keep the upper hand.
I'd better not get further into this as Bill doesn't want banter on this
topic for good reason. Just had an interesting strange experience leaving
me befuddled for the moment. While I ignored it at the time maybe sharing
it would help get it off of my mind. Not really worthy of my attention. :)
