[endurance] Mail List Nettiquette

I know most of you already know this, but it doesn't hurt to repeat
it now and then for our newer members.

Some people have to pay by the message, or even by the character,
for their e-mail. Try to keep unnecessary length down. Some ways to
do this are:

1. If your reply is only of interest to the person whose post you
are answering, don't send it to the list, send it directly to them.

2. If you quote the original post, don't quote all of it! Just a
line or two to remind the reader what was said. This is especially
important for long posts.

3. "Me Too" posts -- where you just say you agree with what's
already been said -- are not generally a good idea.

That being said, I think the volume of posts on the dues increase is
serving a good purpose -- by showing how broad the opposition is to
it (especially when they're all forwarded to the AERC office). I'm a
lifetime member, I don't pay dues any more, but I think the amount of
the increase is excessive and will hurt the organization. I hope it
will be modified.

As a Director I worked hard to establish the policy that no rule
changes are passed without the proposed rule first being published
in Endurance News, so the members can make their feelings known to
their Directors. We've had fewer rule changes and less controversy
since we started doing that. I would have hoped the same policy
would have been followed for a dues increase.
