One more on the band wagon - my husband & I ride both competitive (ECTRA) and
AERC rides, but not enough AERC rides to warrant $65. In essence, we've
supported the sport and got a magazine - very little else in immediate
tangible rewards. Very few products can have this kind of price increase and
still "sell". In years past, there was an option to just subscribe to EN.
That option seems to be missing this year. I suspect a number of us would
have used it to avoid the $65 membership fee!

I know that the grassroots riders will never be truely competing for year end
awards with the big dogs (the expensive coolers, jackets, etc.) Perhaps
those wishing to compete for year end awards and recognition could enroll in
a separate program with an associated $$$ cost?!?! Another option (certain
to be less popular) is to eliminate costly prizes - surely a big ticket item
for AERC.

At this point in time, I am debating whether to renew - I am undecided. In
our area, my husband & I are some of the strongest proponents of distance
riding. Through us, AERC has gained a number of new members. I will find it
hard to encourage folks to sign up when I am unwilling to renew because of
the second significant price increase in recent years!

I hope that AERC BOD & staff are responsive to what I hope is an outpouring
of complaints/concern/hesitency at rejoining!
