[endurance] membership fees

I gather from a lot of you that you are not ride managers (Dom excluded) so
I'll try to clear up some confusion:
$5 non member fee is charged for 50 milers and up. If the manager doesn't
charge it, AERC charges it to them and they have to pay it personally. If
you are getting charged the fee for LD, you are getting ripped off. AERC
does not charge this, and for good reason. (This we fought and WON)

As to add the money to sanctioning fees, we would lose RIDE MANAGERS! And
this we do not need! They would, in turn, raise their fees, and lose entry
numbers. Many people in this region will boycott a ride if the fee is over
$60. As a rider, you'd only have to ride two rides with a $5 entry fee inc
rease and you're back to the $10 increase from the membership fee.
As a manager, I have to pay $60 already for three vet memberships. Some
vets pay their own, but two of mine don't vet any other rides but mine.

As a family, where both ride, and two kids will start this year doing 50s,
you're looking at $95!!! Now that's a lot of money!

Mathematically, if they raised the non-member fee to $10, you'd have to
ride SEVEN RIDES to break even!! How many do 350+ miles a year???

So, what will I do? I have no choice. I'm a ride manager. Do I agree?
I'm not against the fee increase. I am against charging limited distance
riders the non-member fee, though!

BTW, if you want to get bent out of shape about sorry record keeping and
high fees, complain about the IAHA!!!

Just another angle.......
