at roughly 5K members times $20/member increase - this is
an additional $100K/year to the aerc. that seems a lot to cover
the 10K plus the new costs of a $25K/year software program
to handle all their functions.
rather than just not renewing - perhaps we should try to get
it changed by
1. letting your regional directors know - by postcards,
telephone, or e-mail
2. same with directors
3. or the office of the aerc.
i really hesitate to post the e-mail addresses of those
officers and directors that have gotten on the internet.
we want to encourage them to be there and getting all
the unhappy e-mail we are likely to generate will not
encourage them. too bad the aerc doesn't have an e-mail address.
but you can find some of the addresses by looking at the endurance
homepage in the officers, directors, and regional directors sections.
i think the organization certainly has a useful function but the
increase is far too much.
it would be better to let them know ahead of time rather than just
drop the membership. they would have a chance to do something
about it rather than have the same costs spread over a smaller number
of members.
and i have had several ride managers ask me for my aerc number.
at the uset ride in june - maggy price called those that had
not put it on the entry to make sure they were actually members.
