Lari,
Yes, there is definitely endurance life after colic surgery!
Debbie's horse, Stoney, had colic symptoms during the White River
100 in Michigan on April 30,1994. Exploratory surgery at MSU
revealed enteritis, a medical condition not requiring removal
of any of the intestines. Deb developed a hopeful and careful
program to bring him back, with the goal of regaining top form
by this Fall. Last November, he did two 50's, finishing in good
shape. After a Winter layoff, he did a 50 in April, finishing
very strongly. The real test was the Biltmore 100, where he seemed
finally back to his true self (strong and obnoxious). Since the
surgery, he has completed 410 endurance and 125 competitive miles.
Ten days ago, Stoney trotted in sound and fit to continue at
V5 (93miles) in Kansas. He was in 12th place, but unfortunately
Debbie wasn't with him.

This seems like a good place to thank everyone who sent their love
and condolences to Debbie and perhaps to set the record straight.
Debbie is recovering from four broken ribs suffered after Stoney
got into electric wire that was strung across trail in the dark.
He bolted and she bailed out. She did not get thrown into a road
sign as we have heard from several people.

Lari, Debbie would love to share her experiences of bringing Stoney
back. We're really behind you and feel Asheem can do it too!

Best Wishes,
Pete LaBerge
