O.K.  my two cents worth!  Down here in the S.east region, due to a lot 
of space limitations, we are forced to use the cloverleaf type trails.  
Most of the times, it is ridden as two loops, then a repeat.  Sometimes 
there is an away check, most of the times there is not.  I guess it is 
what you get used to, since a whole lot of people that I know prefer the 
loops into camp.  Most of our horses, if in good shape, will haul boogie 
out of camp without looking back.  I have one horse that prefers away 
checks because he is not constantly looking for his trailer buddy that is 
still doing 25's, but in camp checks are no big deal either.  Just takes 
a minute or two longer at the first check.  I really enjoy being able to 
tie my horse to the trailer so I can go to the port-o-let, since there is 
not always someone available at away checks.  Especially if you come in 
right in the thick of things.  And, yes, people are really good about 
taking my things out to a check if I don't have a crew, but unless 
someone is standing right there, I may not be able to find, or even get 
to my things.  Allright for me, but not so allright for my poor horse.  I 
don't think it is cruel to ask my horse to leave camp numerous times, 
unless he is not fit for the task at hand.  If he is fit, he is more 
anxious than I am to leave.
