[endurance] Desetin ointment trick

Hi everyone-
I tried something which really worked! I heard somewhere that people
used Desetin ointment on their horse's armpits to fight off rashes and
irritated skin caused by girth rubbing. After my new horses first 50,
I noticed some dried up skin and a little irritation in his front
armpits. It was not under or around the girth area, but up in the
soft skin right under his front legs. It went away in a few days,
but I didn't like the way it looked. I use a Toklat fuzzy dressage
girth with elastic on both ends.
On his second 50 last week, I smeared the Desetin on his skin before
the ride, and again at the lunch stop. It is a greasy white smelly
ointment, and looks a little funny at first. It runs a little when he
sweats, and when I washed him down at lunch.
It is now a week after the ride, and there was no sign of irritation
at all. His skin was nice and smooth, (just like a baby's behind)
with no sign of any hair loss. I am planning on using it at our first
multiday as well. Anyone else have any experience with armpit rash?
