This usually works perfect, but spit dries out rather quickly and therefore
I recommended gel (electrode gel - expensive; hair gel - not to be used
on horses with sensitive skin; SRL-gel - homeopathic muscle gel which
also provides great contact) in case you realy want to test whether the
monitor is working properly. This should enable you to have contact
straight away.
But Judy, you're right, normally spit is THE contact "gel" that's always
available.

Uh, not to be too crude, but I use spit (my own) for electrode gel and
it seems to work well. I think the contacts just need moisture (gel,
spit, sweat) to work properly.
