A few years back, I spent about 10 seconds digging a trench down a trail with
my
helmet when my hiking boot stuck to the stirrup better than my butt did to
the
saddle. The toe caught in the top, my heel caught in the bottom, and the
very
inflexible sole couldn't distort enough for my foot to pull free. I'm not
sure how
I finally got loose, but it was probably from hitting something very solid...
That's
probably also why for three days I had no memory of being dragged.
I'm not sure if covered stirrups would have prevented this, but I use them
now, along
with some very skinny and flexible shoes.
