At the AERC board meeting last weekend this ambiguity was brought up. The
completion rule means "Sound at a trot" with the same exam as any other vet
check. Not for several years has a horse that is only sound at a walk and
lame at a trot considered to be successfully completed. The rules have been
corrected to state that the exam "Must" be performed at a trot rather than
"Should" be at a trot.
