The Los Vaqueros ride is an AERC sanctioned ride in the historic Black Diamond
Mines regional Preserve. To reach the base camp, take highway 4 south from Antioch
and exit on the Sommersville Road. Follow the road about 3/4 of a mile into
the park. The trail is moderate in difficulty consisting of both fire-roads and
single file trail, over scenic grasslands and woodlands. There is plenty of water
on the trail, though water is limited at base camp to horse water. No
potable water (the rangers truck in all of the water they use) so bring plenty
for you and your crew to drink..
Basecamp: This is a loop trail with all vet checks located at base camp. There
is plenty of parking, NO DOGS. (ideal ride for those of you with no crew)
Chech in: Check in Friday will be from 4 p.m. until dark. The rider meeting will
be held at 8 p.m. sharp. 50 milers will start on Saturday at 6 a.m. and have
12 hours to complete the ride. 25 milers will start at 6:30 and have six hours in which
to complete. In order to be eligible for awards, riders must stay on the designated traill,
pass all vet checks and complete sound at the trot.
Awards 50: First, best condition gold, silver and bronze medals, 1st Junior
and completion. Breed awards (copy of registration must accompany entry).
Awards 25: Best condition Gold, silver and bronze medals, and completion.
Awards Dinner will be served at 4 p.m. on Saturday. 25 mile awards will be
presentd at 4:30, 50mile awards presented at 6:30.

Rules and Regulations
1. Horses must be 5 years old, 4 yrs for 25 miler. No mares in foal
2. Horses must be shod
3. Horses must stand all veterinary inspections, opinions of the vets are final
4. Abuse of the horse, use of stimulants or painkillers are prohibited. Horses will
be subject to urine testing.
5. The same horse and rider must pass all control points, designanted finish line and stay on the
marked trail, there will be no ties.
6. Hikers have the right o way at all times. Any rider that does not show caution
and courtesy when passing hikers will be disqualified.
7. No smoking on the trail.
8. Horses must be under control. Any horse endangering others may be disqualified.
9. Violation of the rules will disqualify horse and rider. All decisions of the management
are final. Management reserves the right to refuse any entry.
10. Juniors (16 yrs and under) must ride with their adult assigned sponsor at
all times.

undersigend, my heirs, executors and administrators waive and releive Donna Snyder
Smith, Dominique Freeman, the East Bay Regional Park District, their agents and assistants
and any person or individual connected in any way with the Los Vaqueros Ride, from any
and all rights, claims or liability for damages including negligence, for any and
all injuries to me, my proprty, or my animal inthe vent of an accident caused by me or
my animal or an accident caused by anyone else connecte with or participating in this trail ride.
