At the ROC I like how when I entered the P&R area and asked for the pulse, my
time was noted, then if the horse was down the time I asked was my time, I was
always down or I would have been penalized 10 minutes. This alleviates the 5
people saying they are down and by the time the pulses all get taken you are
penalized a minute or two because the timer gets the time after the P&R people
take the pulse and if you are short on help this makes a difference. It also
penalizes the person that is not down, but keeps a P&R person tied up because
they are almost down.
The one disadvantage at ROC for me was often the crew area was not near the
P&R area and since I came down and ready to P&R immediately with no crewing I
had to forego food and water until I passed through the process. After the
P&R you went directly to the vet. I sort of don't like that in some ways, I
think the vet should see the horse immediately before you enter the trail
again to see if any problems have arisen during the hold.
