New to endurance riding

Hi Everyone! I am new to the world of endurance riding. I've been reading the
messges I've received since logging on to this list and I have a few questions I
hope someone would not mind taking the time to answer. For instance, what is
the AERC? How does one become a member? What/where is Tevis? It sounds like a
big event - maybe the biggest annual event of endurance riding? Also, the event
in Flagstaff - is that an annual event that is located in a different place each
year or is it regional only? How would I find the local endurance riding club
in my area (Los Angeles area)? How would I sign up for working on a crew in one
of these (or other) races/rides? I would like to learn by participating and I
don't mind hard work. I would appreciate any information sent in response to my
query. Thanks alot!
