Heather,

In a message dated 95-07-12 22:13:15 EDT, you asked:

The answer is that many events have required a valid health cert. and Coggins
for many years. The California health certificate has a box where you check
either inter- or intra-state. Diseases are spread when horses travel to new
areas and mix with horses from still other places, especially when stressed.

While it is quite a pain to get the paperwork, I think we all would rather
meet this requirement than to come home with a disease that might kill all of
your (and your neighbor's) horses. While it is unlikely for your horse to
come down EIA from being at a ride, it is going around in several places
right now.

Don't worry about it, just prevent it!

Mike

Congrats to Ellen and Amber for completing the Grimes ride, heard that it
was a tough ride, more challenging than some of the canadian rides. <gee>

I was talking with Tom Greer who is running the Lolo Springs race Aug 15th
and he told me that he will requiring racers to have a health certificate
and Coggins to enter the race- not test/results, no race. He said he is
worried about the Coggins outbreak in Boise and doesn't want it brought up
to his area. Can't blame him, but this is news to me to start requiring
Certs and Coggins interstate. Yes, I know that technically, we should have
it, but who really does? I haven't before now. Has anyone else heard this?
Ann, are you requiring anything for Potlatch??

Anyone going? I heard it is a gorgeous area to ride, plus there are hot
springs to soothe our worn out bodies in afterward....heaven!

Heather and Cayenne
