My policy on asking others for favors has always been to over-compensate
them! People really do appreciate others who routinely offer to pay for
things when others have done them favors. (Especially when by beloved horse
was involved). Now, our two horse gooseneck is travelling to every ride we
can get to, and we routinely offer to haul to training rides, or wherever
friends need to go. However, it doesn't take long to figure out who you'll
haul again and who you won't . Be generous if someone offers to help you
with anything, especially, horse related items. Horse people (especially
endurance people) are special. I've never met a better group of folks.
We help whenever we can, because we would want the same if we were in need.
2 weeks ago, we went up to Swan Creek (Allegan, Michigan) to help the ride
managers mark trail for the upcoming ride. Instead, the ride managers were
busy putting up the hay they had just learned was ready. Instead of marking
trail, we put it off for another time, and helped with the hay. The rewards
of being with good endurance friends was well worth the effort we put out.
We had a great time! I've been burned many times with horse-hauling for
other people, but the good times have sure out-weighed the bad!
