Lyon's recommends reversals instead of circles. Say's do an abrupt stop and
180. This means that at some point the horse has stopped and may do one or two
steps of walk before speeding up. Keep doing it. Eventually the horse will
walk. That's something I've tried with some success. People think you are crazy
though.
