Then, in yesterday's digest, I read Desiree's description of her ride on an
Akhtal Teke (sp?) and have only recently started seeing anything on
these horses. Saw my first one (a beautiful palomino) in Prineville, OR in
May.
The owner of this particular mare also has a buckskin (in A.T. parlance
called a "golden bay"!) stallion standing fairly nearby (south-central WA).
So, what are they like? Do they cross well with Arabs? Where should I
look to read more about this breed?

If anyone has any suggestions, fire away!

The color of my Achal Teke (Achal Tekkiner) Love over Gold is of
course, it is already in the name, palomino-gold.
The breed is not that well known (yet), and people realy have to get
used to the type the horse is. Slim, skinny, gold color coat, white manes
and tail. Everywhere I come with him he catches people's eyes.

They are tough and I was also thinking of breeding an Achal Teke with
an Arab, but as Love is a gelding now (he couldn't behave as he was a
stallion and got realy dangerous) I can't breed with him anymore.
He was very kicky when I got him, but isn't anymore. He was scared of
men and didn't run away when he got scared, but attacked!

Now he is very friendly horse, he became MY horse, a real friend
focussed on me.
His dressage is improving and he learns fast.
Drinking during races is quite a problem (a desert horse, as this breed is,
can do about 3 days without water) you try to make him drink during a
couple of hours ride. He starts drinking only after a couple of hours.

I will try to get a picture of him on the endurance home page, so that
anyone out there can have a look.

Books on breeds probably have a few lines on this breed too. It is hard
to get information. I do have a booklet in German (I got it at Equitana from
the German Achal Teke "friends") and am looking for more info.

Hopes this already gives you a start.
