My little Arab "Bechir" got overtrained too by the both of us being too
enthusiastic to cover miles (in our case "kilometers") in order to get the
best condition possible. Result: a bad tendon injury which threw us out
of competition for over 2 years.
He's back on the low-level competition now, but we changed training
methods completely:
- Monday: endurance based dressage 1 hour (intensive, trot, canter, lots
of curves)
- Wednesday: 1.5 - 2 hours forrest training (intensive, trot, short
canter period)
- Saturday 2-3 hours relaxed field ride (walk, jog, trot, short canter
period)

My Akhal Teke "Love over Gold" has the following schedule:
- Tuesday and Thursday: riding class dressage (intensive)
- Saturday 2-3 hours forrest, field and/or hillside training (intensive, trot ,
short canter period)
- Sunday: 2.5-3 hours relaxed forrest ride with a rdiing class (walk, trot,
canter, cool down, cup of coffee, walk home)

We are doing the "Eisborn CEA 90 kilometer (approx. 55 miles)" this
Sunday in Germany. To finish means ELDRIC-points (ELDRIC = European
Long Distance Rides Conference).
