Hi! I live in central PA, and I know how the weather can vary alot
in one day. I never knew exactly why a sudden change in weather can
cause colic (anyone know?). But I've been there, know what it's like,
and do everything possible to prevent it. I keep a real close eye on
local products (grains and hay), because at least around here, the
quality of the oats was so poor for so long that I switched to Purina
steamed, crimped oats. The local oats were small, dirty and dusty.
And of course the seller would swear that the oats were fine and if I
didn't like the dust just wet it down a bit. I think that living in
this climate makes it hard if not impossible to turn out good healthy
products sometimes.
So there's my plug for the day...I'm hooked on Purina steamed, crimped
oats (crimped oats were recommended by Dare's vet because they're
easier to digest). They look good, smell good, I eat em myself.
Was that of any help?
PS (I don't feed corn either, don't trust the local sellers to really
know what's best for *horses*, they know lots about cows and
think horses are the same I guess. But it's too risky and Dare
doesn't need it. Also I think you're wise to limit pasture, that
green stuff can be dangerous too).
