Re: RE: [RC] Blanket repair - scswag

Thank you for all the suggestions on blanket repair. I was able to use my Necchi sewing machine, fabric fuse tape and hand sewing. The rip was along a seam and the material kept fraying. So I used the machine to stitch along the fraying part to keep from fraying more then used the fusing tape to hold the two edges so they would hold together while  I hand stitched the seam. Looks pretty good but I'll have to wait now for the next rain storm to see if it holds. It's on the lower section of the blanket so I don't have to worry about the water getting under the blanket.
Thanks again!

I’ve tried sewing rips in my horse blankets by hand, but when the rip is long (and the fabric is heavy) it takes for-ever.  Especially if you try to do small, tight stitches.  I still stand by the local shoe shop.  The last rip was a pretty good one… think the shoe shop fixed it for about three dollars on their heavy-duty machine.  That’s some stitching that won’t come loose in a lifetime!  ;-)

I've always done mine by hand & use dental floss for thread. Floss is the strongest thing I've found:never have had to re-repair anything I've sewn w/ it. Including saddle bags.

Does anyone do their own repair? I am wondering what type of sewing machine do you use?
