Probably the best approach is to feed the two horses separately. Even if
they are together all the rest of the time, you need to create an area where
the mare can eat in peace. There is no way that I'm aware of to train a
horse not to eat every thing in sight, if that's his natural inclination.
You could go out with the whip everyday, but that gets time consuming, and
probably makes both of the horses nervous. Just take some hot wire and
create a small pen for one of the horses (if they respect hot wire) At
feeding time put one in the pen, and when they have both finished, you can
let that one out. Chances are that the mare naturally eats slower than the
gelding, in addition to being bullied away from the feed. So even if you
feed them at opposite ends of their paddock, he's going to clean his up then
come after hers. jeri
