Ramp v. step-up
Wouldn't the occasional problem with the step-up (horse's legs going underneath and getting scraped up) be resolved with shipping boots? Because otherwise, the step-up sounds like it has a lot of advantages over the ramp IMHO. Some of the less expensive shipping boots are just made with cotton, so I don't think it would really heat up the horse's legs or anything. And avoids the bandaging problem for those who are less adept at it.
