Hi all,
several points... first, thanks to all the folks down at the Far Out Forest
ride. They were quite gracious hosts, nice trails & perfect weather. Yes,
it was wet & cooler than expected, but that indeed was perfect for the
expected Fl. temp of 80s plus.
WE took 3 barefoot Texas horses & the trails were just right for that...
<BG> lots of sand. Finished 1 & 2 in the 100 miler.
On angles of feet.... what they teach us in "barefootin" is 45ish in the
front, 55ish in the back. That is really quite different than what most
farriers do.... however, this angle is the natural angle for the coffin bone
& keeps it ground parallel and the foot much healthier even if you are going
to shoe. Those high heels & contracted frogs are murder on a horses foot &
everything u can do to keep that from happening will benefit you down the
road/trail.
