[RC] Leg confirmation - Answer to Quiz - Stagg_Newman
1) R.T. Muffin aka Muffy, most wins and BCs in AERC history, one North
American gold, over 9000 miles, .... - club footed.
2) R.O. Grand Sultan aka Rio - 3 World Championships, two North American
golds, two Tevis, two ROC wins, ... - toes in
3) Pieraz - aka Cash - 2 World Championships, ROC win, AERC 100 mile
champion, ... - leg not exactly straight, wore front shoes very quickly
4) Charibel - Silver Medal at '01 Pan Am, AERC 100 mile champion, .... -
toes in
5) Ramegwa Drubin - most points in AERC 100 miles in 1 season (7 1st, 2nd,
3rd), 14 straight seasons of 100s, ... - bench kneed with splints, aka
flying buttresses
So as various people have observed leg confirmation is not the most
important factor in what makes a top horse. Not that I recommend looking
for problems.
Would be interested in other examples.
My favorite story of picking or not picking horses by appearance is the one
Becky Hart tells.
Becky was giving a clinic at Al Marah Farms. The first day was class room
and she went over the ideal characteristics of an endurance horse.
The second day was hands-on and Becky had 12 horses available for the
students to examine and pick the best endurance prospects including some
gorgeous Al Marah Arabians. The one horse nobody picked from the 12 was
this slightly chunky 14h3 bay Arab, aka Rio whom Becky had put among the
12!
BTW a closer examination of Rio does reveal he is very well put together.
And what does not show up in the exam is the draft horse size heart
in the 14h3 body, which I was told a sonogram revealed. And incredible
will to win.
