I asked you last year if I could have one year of
not taking in any abused or neglected animals. Not because I didn't want them,
but because I was tired of seeing what irresponsible people can do to
these poor creatures.
Of course, that didn't happen. I am not
blaming you.
Our greyhounds that are off the track are getting
older. It is sad to see them so crippled form injures incurred during their
racing careers. Our hound dog, who was found in a dumpster has no enamel on this
teeth, due to lack of calcium as a puppy. I am sure YOU know that dumpsters can
not nurse puppies or kittens, but not everybody does.
A few days ago, we took in another horse. Same old
story. Owner didn't want her, just stopped feeding her and left her to fend
for herself. It broke our hearts when we had to put the last one down because of
founder. He was only four years old. Luckily, his owner was charged, lost his
house and his business. Of course, that didn't lessen the pain and suffering the
horse went through before we let him go.
I don't understand how someone can keep a large
animal in a 10x10 box and not know if they have any water or food? You don't
have to go far to look. How can anyone put a saddle on a rack of bones and ride
it hard enough to leave a bloody hole under the chin? How can someone watch an
animal in their own backyard wasting away, day after day, and not do anything
about it? Santa, I know you are not a brain surgeon but I had hoped that
this year some people would have gotten a brain, a half of a brain or
even a brain cell. Even some compassion would have helped some people. If
that is out of your league could you talk to the Wizard of Oz?
I do realize that Christmas is really for the kids.
It would be nice to make sure that each and every child gets something. But more
importantly, help the parents. Material things are nice but love and nurturing
is what children need and that is very hard for some parents to give,
unconditionally. Help parents and adults understand that we are what our
children will be. Help us show respect, honor, compassion, responsibility and
love to each other so that our kids will learn by example.
If you could Santa, give parents time for
themselves so that maybe we could have fewer divorces. Help parents to know
that where their time is best spent is with the kids.
Santa, maybe next year will be rescue free. That is
all I want for Christmas.
Happy Holidays to all who love and
support their families and communities and give of themselves all year
long. Christmas is about giving. Give your time, share your knowledge and
always do the right thing everyday. Merry Christmas to my family, John,
Allison and Evan who love and support me no matter what I bring home to the Odd
fArm.
