Re: [RC] riding in traffic - eyler
My (very limited) experience:
For the horse -- It can be really helpful for the horse to be in a field that
borders a road with a fair amount of car/truck/motorcycle traffic, so that the
horse becomes accustomed to all the traffic noises. Doesn't need to be in
that setting forever, but some time around traffic while at liberty helps a
lot.
For the rider -- My horse was picking up on my tension and fear (worrying
about a motorcycle backfiring, etc.). I found that if I sing in such
situations it forces me to breathe and thus relaxes all my muscles. Usually
all I can think of at such a time is "100 Bottles of Beer", but my horse
doesn't object to my 'fear repertoire.'
