RE: [RC] riding in traffic - Roy Drinnan

All the folks around here seem to fear riding near a heavily traveled road.
While I adamatley concur that proper training is required, and the worst can
always happen, we do not consider riding on heavily travelled roads to be of
    a serious problem.

I find far to many people feel safe when riding on a logging road, two track
or similarly other less traveled road. Around here, most of the people on
the main roads are expecting other traffic, and while ignorant of horses are
    for the most part safe.

Get out on a real back road/trail and the 4x4s (i'm one), the bikes, the 4
wheelers don't expect a horse around the next bend. Sure you know they are
comming, but the don't expect you. And on some trail there is only so far
off you can get. Every ride I manage, I fear the idiot in the woods much
more that I fear the accident on the main road.

When I was young, and slightly more stupid than now, we thought it was great
fun to tear around back trails in anything with a motor.
