The first two years I put on the Green Swamp Stomp
we were not sanctioned.
I wanted to draw people into endurance to have a
good time. I remembered how confusing the finish line was for a beginner so I
made it easy.
However you crossed the finish line was your
placing. BUT, they were only given 20 minutes to recover to a pulse of 60.
This gave everyone a chance to "compete" but kept
them from overdoing it. It also kept everything very simple.
Not one pull, not one problem. I told everyone at
the ride meeting this was not the normal finish for AERC but it still worked
very well. We had a small turnout the first year but the second year had more in
the 15 mile ride. The same rule applied to them. Again, no pulls, no problems.
It works for both horse and rider, vets and RM. A
little different than what is possibly being proposed, but a lot easier.
