Re: [RC] to LD or not - Truman Prevatt
New horse: Basic training. A year of dressage or dressage type lessons
would be nice to teach him to carry himself correctly. Many miles of
trail rides and lots of miles of easy trotting.
Older horse: Much of the basic training should be in place, but some
dressage work would be nice unless he has already had it. Long miles of
easy trotting on the trail.
Once you have the basics down you can refine the program. But the basics
are lots of miles trotting at a reasonable rate.
Check out the SERA website (www.seraonline.org) for some info you can
download that will answer many of your questions.
Go to rides and have fun.

Watching this thread with interest. Time to do the new member obligatory
check-in. I'm Susan in eastern North Carolina. Currently starting a 12 y/o
OTT STB trotter mare under saddle. We are just getting nice forward movement
and some sort of frame. Very new to the endurance discipline, but finding
that it is attracting me. Anyone want to fill me in on those things an
endurance horse ought to be able to do before going on a ride. Ideas on
conditioning and building endurance. Have been reading the various items
posted on website and will check archives at some point. Any resources you
want to direct my way would be appreciated.
