Practice your transitions everywhere, in the ring and on the trail. Walk,
trot, canter and halt. Mix them up. If you have the chance to ride with
others, practice transitions. If some folks want to canter at the start of
a ride--so what? If you have doubts that your horse and you aren't ready
for the front of the pack start at the back.
