Heh, Heh...you never forget those. I did Teddy Lancaster's "Frantic"
2-day 100 back in '94. At the start on the 2nd day, we were tacking up
under the awning on the trailer...it was raining so hard you coudn't see
the front of the truck! The last vet check was on the other side of a
creek crossing. After two horses got washed away in the creek, they sent
us back on the trail we came in on. We did MANY extra miles. Had an
impromptu vet check on top of the mountain. The name "Silver Arrow
Trail" is burned in my memory forever...will never forget it! I'm sure
Teddy won't either! What a nightmare! You just persevere....if it were
easy, everyone would do it.
Debi Gordon won the damn thing on Redman...two hours ahead of me. Was
the first time I got to see him...awesome horse...my favorite of all
time. (She probably didn't have to ride back up Silver Arrow Trail!)

My first real season of riding every ride was absolutely beautiful
weather. It was more than made up for the next year where every ride but
one was in the rain - sometimes very cold rain. I did my first and third
hundred in the rain - one hundred frigging miles of rain. By second was
done in freezing temps. It was so cold I got off to walk myself about 5
miles out to warm up. Then I had on so many clothes and was so still and
couldn't find a log, ditch, etc. to get back on the 16-1 hell bitch so I
walked the last 5 miles:-). At least I was warm.
Riding in the rain is not for wimps - but they do call it endurance
riding.
