You forgot a certain level of insanity. I managed two rides, one an international FEI (well, la di da!!) having spent time on ridecamp and in books and having ridden one 20 km ride.  I don't recommend this course of action to anyone, but BOY did I learn stuff fast. Now I have managed to volunteer at the Pan Ams in Vermont and I'm planning to get myself out to the DVE to ride, work, watch, do anything for a couple of days just so I can see how a multiday is done. I figure if I can do that from Egypt, what's a little drive? I wish it were so easy to get to real rides.

This reply leaves me wondering "What does it take to set up a clinic, or a ride?"

That is what does it take after the requisite attack of insane thought along the lines of "I bet I (we?) could set up a ride right here ......"
