[RC] Leg Wound Help--Thanks - Val Nicoson
Want to thank all those who replied to me both
publicly and privately...THANKS. My mare's leg wound
is healing nicely and did have the vet out the next
day. All he did was wash it up and provide some
Novalsan (sp?) to keep it cleaned up with. We are
currently using Wonder Dust and/or Copper Sulfate on
it to help keep the wound drier...proud flesh is
trying to get a grip.
Each day the leg swelling has gone done by half and
now the little bit that is left will probably remain
until the wound is more closed up. The knee and leg
is a bit larger than her other leg but no more heat or
noticeable fluid in there.
The vet was quite happy that she was putting plenty of
weight on the leg and did move off well. She never
did get very lame but what there was is nearly gone.
Vet said she should be rideable in about 10 days.
He thought she had gotten her leg stuck in a fence or
a gate but it's hard to tell. No way of ever knowing
for sure unless someone is actually watching them for
the full time of turn out.
Thanks again...have saved all the replies for future
reference and use...and for those who may need it in
the future :-)
Val + Sania
