Don't forget the blacktop (not much, but hard to avoid). I got fallen on at the start in 2001 on the road. I used borium this year but didn't use pads at all, but we were in no hurry since it was Shadow's first 50. I normally pad. The natural rocks on the trail aren't as bad as some of the gravel roads. I used easyboots (no shoes at all) on another ride in the same area and they worked fine.We have no rocks or hills here, either, and I have trained sensibly in deep sand and done interval training on a more advanced horse. By the way, this is my favorite ride, see you next year.
