Wow, thanks to all of you who have really helped
with my water tank decision!
I have a slide-in camper in my truck bed, so
hauling horse water in the truck is not an option, and space in the tack room is
very valuable!
I've decided to get the 35 gallon tank, it is UV
stabilized, and I'll still be able to fit 2 bales of hay up in my smallish
(50x75) hay rack on my 2 horse slant. The tank is 22 lbs empty,
so I can easily take it off when not using it. It is 300 lbs when full, so
I'm taking the trailer in to the local welder to make sure the rack can
accommodate about 450#s (Paddi's advice and Karen's scary story convinced me
this is a necessity!). I definitely don't want to have to stop fast only
to have 300 lbs of water and a hay rack plow into my camper and
truck.
My trailer is a very heavy steel model (89 Logan),
but I'll check to see if I need to do anything to accommodate that much weight
on the roof. With the added weight of the camper I'm using a weight
distributing hitch and all seems to be working well.
I will definitely use plastic, not metal plumbing
(thanks Ed, wouldn't have thought of that!).
Thanks again to all of you, this is why I love
Ridecamp!
