I rode at the Santa Barbara Nationals when I was
a kid and rode with Paul Newman's wife Joanne Woodward and their two little
(adorable) girls. We all rode hunt seat and were riding hunter/jumpers. One
day Joanne (who rode under a different name which I thought was very noble) fell
off and Paul went running into the arena and scooped her up into his arms and
carried her all the way back to their barn. They were both laughing by then and
so was everyone in the audience and the warm up ring. She was a very good rider
and so were those cute little girls. That was 1976.
