Just had to put my 2 cents worth in on this subject.....I've seen all
kinds of systems work and not work. Saw 2 horses become entangled on
their high tie lines this summer as they went to scratch their faces and
got their rear leg over the rope attached to their halters and then
started fighting. Luckily My husband had his hood knife handy and ran
and cut the one guy loose before too much damage was done. The other
happened at the Nationals and poor Ian. He had bad luck with his horse
being tied just to a trailer ring...so he then went to hot wire ; horse
went through or something like that; so he invested in the swing out
armoff the top of the trailer. Well, at about 4 am he feels his trailer
rocking and rolling (and it wasn't due do his activity) so out he runs
and finds his boy with the rope all wrapped around his back leg and down
on the ground.
I've also seen horses go through electric.....so I think accidents
happen no matter what we try to help our equine friends. We use the 1
1/2 inch white electric tape and use 5ft. white step in corner posts and
shorter ones for in between. We put up 2 strands of the tape so the
fencing is very visible. Yes, we have had the fence pulled down once or
twice but, since this is the fencing we use at home (our entire pastures
are 3 strands of 1 1/2 inch white tape)our guys just stand in the corner
from the down wire blaming the next guy for causing the problem.
I really like the 1 1/2 inch tape ....very visible for horses and others
too!!!!!
