Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Hunting Season - Nancy Mitts

    Lif,
Yes, there are months and months of seasons here, also. But it really only the deer gun season that is a problem. (As long as they forget trying to reintroduce elk, which haven't been native here for a long time!) Aside from the issue of careless shooters that aren't hunters, there is speed of the prey and carrying distance of the projectile. Even a very good hunter can miss and their bullet can riccochete in unexpected directions.
Squirrels are mainly shot out of trees, rabbits & coyotes in the open, coons at nights, Turkeys at dawn & evening. Spring Turkey is another dangerous season, but in MO it closes at 1:00 or 2:00 pm, leaving time for a safe afternoon ride. Deer archery & black powder are also long seasons, but they just don't bring out the concentration of hunters, the hunters have to be closer to their target, and mainly, they are mostly real hunters. The potential for deadly conflict is low.
    Nancy Mitts

See, my problem with this all along has been that you might only have 11 days of deer season there, but here we have months and months of hunting (not just deer, but even deer season is several months long), in fact the major part of the year. Can this be the only area where hunting season is so long? I can understand being willing to stay out of woods and forests for 11 days, but not for the better part of the year.
