I'd submit that that is because they are doing a good job, and keeping
numbers regulated to where overpopulation and subsequent stripping of
vegetation does not occur.

Nature doesn't care if species die out (many did, and do, with just
letting nature take its course), nor does it care if an area is denuded
for 20 years due to overpopulation and its aftermath. Man has also been a
part of that balance for tens of thousands of years, so why is it so wrong
for him to continue to be a part of that balance, but to be more sensitive
to his place in the balance, with regulated hunting?
