[RC] [RC] Fwd: Hunter mistakes girl's horse for a deer - Deanna German

    Kelli,

Hunting season isn't in *full* swing in Ohio... yet. It is bow hunting
season and has been for a couple of months now. In a couple of weeks during
gun season, you WON'T see me riding anywhere! During gun season, the yahoos
who shoot at anything come out of the woodwork. Cattle and large dogs have
been brought into deer stations for tagging! I'm not taking a chance with a
    chestnut horse.

Even now, I wear neon orange; my horse wears yellow tack and bells. I don't
go where I'm not supposed to be and I report hunters who are where they
aren't supposed to be to the park office. A note to Ohioans: every state
park has its own regulations. Laws covering hunting (including Sunday
hunting) often have exclusions specific to state park property. Check with
the park office before hitting the trails and don't be afraid to report
hunters, particularly gun toters, who are where they aren't supposed to be.

Just a note, one usually doesn't have much to worry about from bow hunters.
Bow hunting takes a great deal of skill and time, plus they gotta get close
to what they are shooting at. Although I do know of at least one person on a
grey horse who was shot at with an arrow -- yeah, I kinda think that was on
    purpose.

Neon and bells, that's the ticket. Or at least a start.

This article is from the Star Tribune in Mpls/St.Paul MN. Hunting season is
in full swing here in OH. Just wanted to share this-make sure if you are
out riding, you take extra precautions (like wearing orange!!). As you will
read in this article, the hunter didn't even really see the horse, but just
saw something moving and shot at it.
