[RC] Attitudes - terre

Some peoples' perspective of our sport simply confounds me!
1)'stigma attached to pulling'--Yes, our motto is "to finish is to
win". This is our official acknowledgement that 'merely' completing a ride
is an accomplishment worthy of recognition and reward. The obvious reverse
is that completing is not *automatic* or even easy. How can there be a
'stigma' attached to failing to achieve something that most horsemen in the
world wouldn't even attempt? Do you think we are all 'expected' to
complete "every time"?

2)rewarding riders for pulling their own horses via "RO". Wow. Riders
decide to pull a marginal horse because they believe it is in the horse's
best interests. Why should that require an incentive? Do we give awards
to parents for NOT beating their children? I would prefer to assume that
every rider out there is doing the best for their horse that they can; if
this is not true it should still be the "standard" we hold to, and not
something that needs to be incentivized or rewarded. I don't "expect"
everybody to complete--I DO "expect" them to do what is right for their horses.

Terre (same region as Bob--maybe it's our water?)
