There's a story on that, it's about horse shows but the same thing
happens to us endurnace folk:
A man buys a $500 horse for his daughter, who wants to ride in horse
shows.
Then he has to buy a $1,000 saddle for the daughter to put on the $500
horse to ride in shows.
Then he has to buy $1,500  worth of clothes for the daugher to wear
while riding in the $1,000 saddle on the $500 horse in shows.
Then he has to buy a $10,000 trailer to take the $500 horse to the
shows.
Then he has to buy a $30,000 truck to pull the $10,000 trailer to take
the $500 horse to the shows.
