Yes, I know the new pull codes are in the works, and I've forgotten (and
haven't taken time to go look it up) whether the wound category was
addressed. I agree that the hair-splitting about who pulled the horse is
kind of ridiculous. The past system, if one followed the directions and
used it properly, was pretty simple. L means the horse has a gait
problem--could be anywhere from the rider noticing something just a tad off
in certain footing on the trail clear up to bad enough that half the camp
noticed it on the trot-out. M means the horse isn't feeling quitte up to
snuff--and can range from "he didn't recover fast enough to suit me" or "he
isn't eating like he ought to" right on up to a serious crash. RO means
something happened to the rider--ranging from "my breakfast just isn't
sitting right and I don't want to go on" on up to "we just put the rider on
LifeFlight." OT is pretty self-explanatory--you either got to the finish
line before the time ran out, or you didn't, or you were so late to a vet
check that you and management agreed that it was hopeless for you to
continue on because you could not possibly beat the clock. Really, wounds
that caused no gait abnormality and no metabolic stress were about the only
thing not covered by the old system.
