[RC] Hi Leonard - Larry Miller
Cantering depends on the trail and how foot wise the horse is. I do both,
cantering and trotting, whatever the horse wants to do. My horses are
pretty foot wise and not only do I watch where the horse is going, but the
horse does too. When riding bike or snowmobile bumps, one rides the edge so
not so hard on the horse's legs. I have cantered and trotted those too.
What slows me up are rocks but I have been known to trot and canter those
but I must admit to eyestrain. One needs a horse that will respond to leg
and rein pressure to avoid those rocks. Leonard, you must be a very
balanced rider to keep your horse sound and still young too (you, not the
horse)!! LOL The most afraid I was this year was following Kristi on Matt
at Wolverine in MI. That Matt has a 16- 18 mph trot, Kristi had him in the
bitless bridle, and he just flew in a trot uphill, downhill, between trees,
around curves. Billy and I on our horses played tag behind and we both were
gasping and hanging on for dear life. We were galloping to keep up. Billy
said he closed his eyes and things got back to normal when I screeched at 20
yr old Kristi, that I thought we could walk now!!! It was a blast and I was
quite pleased that my 60+ body hung on!
Jeanie getting older but still able to get on a horse with bucket help
