Re: [RC] FW: [RC] Canter vs extended trot - firedancefarms
Here are my stats:
We trot 90% of the time (vs canter). We have never had suspensory problems
(knock on wood). We have a total family mileage of 14,000+ miles, including
three regional IAHA championships by three different family members on three
different horses. One horse was retired sound at 17, one won her last ride
at 19.
Nancy and Monte Mitts have an incredible amount of mileage on their horses,
and they are trotters as well.
Jim Baldwin and Goose were trotters as well, and Goose is still very sound.
I may add that you have to TEACH a horse to trot. We start lots of new
endurance horses and most of them (except the Hackney of course!) want to
canter in the beginning of their training. We definitely do not just "let
them do what they want to do" ..at least not until they are very experienced
endurance horses.
