[RC] Dusty mummy award for sports reporting - Maryanne Stroud Gabbani
One of my friends woke me just before 9 am this morning to read me the
news coverage of yesterday's race (in translation). Our sponsoring
company really outdid themselves in applauding the efforts of the local
riders who were so important to yesterday's victory to the Maktoum
family. News reports are that there were 79 starters of various
nationality (no breakdown), the 120 km were ridden in 5 hours 16
minutes, and there was a picture of the Maktoums receiving their awards
with the smiling face of our national federation president, so one must
imagine that at some point all of this brilliant riding was done with
their blessing. Overall, they could have just rented the pyramids for a
day and not had to deal with pesky Egyptians....but, then, that's just
what they did.
Let's hear it for organised sport.
