I have slept several times in the dressing room of my gooseneck trailer with a "tent safe" propane heater (flame is enclosed so that if you knock it over, it won't set the tent on fire). I set it on the lower deck and I sleep up on the neck with both of the side windows open. It doesn't make the trailer *warm*, but it does take the edge off the cold enough so that I stay toasty under the blankets. I have felt pretty safe with it, what with my face nearer to the open windows than the propane source.

My husband, fireman, and son, boy scout, say ;Always have ventilaton for any kind of heater, leave tent open an inch, etc. or your camper shell. There are some that the open flame are outside and there is a duct of warm air inside. There are propane and butane heaters that have an alarm or automatically shut off. But I would always have a crack of air, who knows when they could malfuntion, I don't like risking my life on that .Tey Capalbos,or other camping suppliers).
My son camped in -6 at Mt. Le conte and my husband in Minnisota at 20- (his had a stove). Son had no heaters(scouts). ( a scout and father died this year from a stove in a tent here in Ga.had an open flame heater in their tent. )The scouts forbid heaters in tents)The dog idea sounds much safer, or a husband. >>>she slept with her charcoal living quarters with her.
??? This is what happens when you try to post when you're late to work. :-PP O.K. I am at work now and safely "on the clock" >deep breath< Should have typed: She slept with her charcoal GRILL in the living quarters. Would someone who understands the idiosyncracies of fatal gasses please explain what types of heat are safe in closed environments and do those alarms that are for gas leaks in your home work for the unsafe ones?
