[RC] GPS Distance Accuracy with Speed and Distance watch - Randy and Cheryl Winter
I recently purchased a Speed and Distance watch which uses a Garmin GPS
receiver in conjunction with a Timex watch. You wear the receiver on your
upper arm and it transmits data to the watch. You can see your real time
mph and distances. Sounded like a great idea. In practice leaving the unit
on constantly during rides seems to eat up the batteries pretty quickly.
When using a regular GPS do those of you who use them leave them on or only
take waypoints occasionally and then download to a computer program to find
distances? Accuracy on distances and thus average mph also seemed suspect
and I'm guessing that's just because of losing contact with satellites along
the ride. Any comments on this watch if it's better or worse than a regular
GPS. I'm thinking about exchanging it.
