Re: [RC] contract for selling a horse - Trailrite

You should never let someone take a horse home without having the pre-purchase exam done first.  If the horse gets damaged while trailering or if they rode the horse before the Vet arrives this could start a problem.  Exams should be done before it leaves your possession.  On the buyers side, they should make sure before hand that this horse is healthy and sound before taking it home.  This makes a clear cut statement that is good for both sides of the coin.
Also consider having them insure the horse before leaving.  This way if the horse gets sick or injured while in someone's care the cost are covered for vet care.  We do this on leases, even though we don't let the horses go to another location.  If they lease one, it stays here.  They can take it to rides, but primary home care is still observed at our ranch.  After all, you wouldn't let someone drive your car off not having these features, why would it be any different?
